Habit Homework

Heritage Heights is a Leader in Me COMMUNITY.  

This means our leadership and work on the 7 Habits should extend beyond our walls into all of our daily lives.  Over the next 20 weeks, we will be supplying you with two Habit Homework assignments to reinforce these ideas at home.  Choose one or complete both as a family!  We would love to hear from you so, tag our school Facebook Page or Instagram accounts with some of your work to accomplish these simple tasks at home.

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Make a chart of your chores and responsibilities this week.  Check off when each is done!

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Find your “happy spot” in your home and take 5 minutes each day to sit silently and reflect. 

Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Try to go one full day without sulking, pouting, or feeling sorry for yourself.  How did your outlook change that day?

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Find a quote that shows what your family values.

Habit 1: Be Proactive

Think about the last time you were mad or upset and said something unkind.  How could you have turned this around?

Habit 6: Synergize

Think about a skill you would like to learn from someone in your family.  Take time to learn and practice that skill this week.

Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Define “courage.”  Identify people in your family or community who are courageous

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Try giving up video games for a week.  List activities you do instead of playing video games.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind

Reflect on your last month.  What went well?  How will you grow throughout the rest of the year? Commit to one learning goal.

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Discuss as a family what it means to “procrastinate.”  Don’t wait until next week to do this :)

Habit 4 - Win-Win

Make a t-chart.  Compare the qualities of a “Good” teammate vs a “Bad” teammate.  What kind of teammate are you and why?

Habit 7 Sharpen the Saw

Make a calendar for the week and log the time you get to bed and wake up.  How much sleep are you actually getting?

Habit 1: Be Proactive

Try laying out your clothes each night before you go to bed.  At the end of the week, reflect.. Did this help your week go more smoothly?

Try listing each of the 7 Habits.  Reflect on what each one means for you.

Habit 2: End in Mind

Draft a family mission statement by completing this sentence.  Our family mission is to commit daily to…..

Plan for and hold a family night this week.

Make a calendar for the week and tally the fruits and vegetables consumed each day. Reflect on your family’s healthy eating habits.

Habit 6: Synergize

Write down the names of the members of your family. Record two or three talents or strengths for each person.

Set a goal for physical activity as a family.  Log the number of minutes you were active.

Take a strategic pause.  Drink some water, stretch, practice mindful breathing and think of something happy. 

Habit 5 - Seek first to understand then to be understood

Think of someone in your family who is a great listener.  What makes them a great listener?

Read a book together as a family.

What is most important in your family?  Make a list of your top 3 “Big Rocks” most important priorities.

Habit 4 - Think win-win

Make a “wish poster.” One side, child’s hopes, dreams and wishes.  Other side, parents.  How do can you support both sides as a family?

Set a family goal for the week.  Make a plan for achieving this short term goal

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Go outside.  Take a walk, visit a park, or play a game.

Habit 1: Be Proactive

List ideas of things you can do when you are bored.  Display this list and keep adding to it!

Habit 6: Synergize

Complete a family project or chore together.
